To receive HazMat alerts, residents can text CCHEALTH to 21423. They can also sign up for emergency messages through the Contra Costa Warning System (CWS).
What the alerts include
Alerts include information about potential health hazards, emergencies, and safety concerns. The alerts are categorized into levels based on the expected impact:
Level 0: No expected offsite impacts or public concern - find Level 0 incidents here
Level 1: Odor, audible impact, or visual impact - flaring lasting more than 20 minutes would trigger this alert. There have been too many to list.
Level 2: May impact the health of sensitive populations - the spent catalyst release was a Level 2 event. Spent catalyst release on November 22, 2022
Level 3: May impact the health of the general public - Fire on February 1, 2025
